Rallarvegen

This ride begins in the colorful mountain town of Gol, Norway where we head up into the high country above the tree line to the town of Haugastøl, the beginning of the Rallarvegen. The Rallarvegen is an old transport road built along the railway line over a hundred years ago. The old road is still used today, bicycles being the main vehicle. Passing old Seter Farms used in the summer for grazing, we will journey up into Finse and continue past the Hardangerjøkulen Glacier to the highest point of the ride, 1343 meters above sealevel. The trail drifts past beautiful mountain waterfalls, lakes and prairies on its way down to Myrdal. Here is where we begin a drop into the world famous Flåm Valley, an unbelievable journey meandering past old farms and the amazing wonders the railroad has done, dropping down to 2 meters above sealevel. A cruise through the Sognefjord, Norway’s largest fjord, leaves us on the shores of the old salmon town of Lærdal. A climb up through the Lærdal valley takes us up to the top of Filefjell Pass giving us a spectacular view of the south side of the Jotunheimen Mountains. This leaves us at the top of the Valdres valley where we will eventually end the tour in Fagernes. Difficulty: moderate
